ABOUT ABOUT

Enjoy a 2-hour guided Forest Therapy walk at Detweiler Park by bringing attention to nature all around you!

Please join us as we disconnect, destress, and boost our immune systems with a short stroll through the woods at Detweiler Park. Discover or deepen your connection to nature as you are guided through a series of invitations to help you slow down, awaken your senses and reconnect with nature.

Use your senses to stay connected while walking by bringing your attention to the sights, sounds, and smells around you.

Learn more about a guided forest therapy walk (also known as Forest Bathing or Shinrin-Yoku) and its important health benefits by watching this 5-minute video which aired on the CBS This Morning show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0MEFNyLPag

About the Presenter:

Your guide for this program is Melissa Fickes. Melissa has completed her Forest Therapy guide training and will be there inviting you to be mindful and experience the park with all your senses.

What you need to know:

  • Wear comfortable clothing and footwear appropriate for walking in the forest.
  • Bring a sweatshirt or jacket if the weather is cool.
  • Bring a bottle of water.
  • You can bring a blanket or collapsible chair to sit in at different points during the program.
  • You may want sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, insect repellent
  • The program is held if there is light rain but would be canceled in the event of heavy rain, or severely windy conditions. Should a cancellation be necessary, you will be notified in advance and will receive a full refund.
  • The overall walking distance is approximately 1-mile and it is a very slow walk and would be considered "easy" hiking conditions. However, the trails at Detweiler Park are not paved, and this walk will include some small inclines. It may not be suitable for those in a wheelchair, or those who have difficulty standing, walking, or maintaining their balance on uneven terrain.
  • We love animals, but for everyone's comfort, we ask that you leave them at home for this program. Service animals are welcome.

This is part of the Park Rx series of programs sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield. A portion of the program costs for this class has been funded by this sponsorship.

Restrictions

Dogs should be left at home, with the exception of service animals.
